Our Story

First Congregational UCC in Crete, Nebraska was founded in 1871 and has been a pillar in this great community ever since. We were instrumental in the founding of Doane College in 1872.

We have a diverse community of believers brought together by the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. As a congregational church, we are free to work out our faith as a local church without a national office instructing us on how to do that. Yet, we have great support from our denomination, the United Church of Christ.

Who We Are
We are an active church with diverse theological viewpoints that still respects each others’ perspectives, because God would have us practice hospitality, patience and community building.

We have a developing devotion to God. Our church offers a wide variety of worship experiences all Sunday morning. Music is an important part of several of our services. We learn to listen well so that we might hear God more clearly, and then discover what that might mean.

We are actively engaged in the Backpack program at the Crete Elementary school and food distribution to the community.

We send mission trips to Guatemala currently. Past mission trips went to Mexico, Memphis, Pine Ridge and many other places, not to conform others to our faith, but to confirm our faith in our engaging in community building.

Our community is always welcome to use our building. Our Activities and Reflection Center (the ARC) is available and used extensively by our own members and by our own Crete community.

Church school for all ages, youth programs for middle school through high school.

We have table fellowship groups and a willingness to form any others you may be thinking about.

At First Congregational UCC, our hope is that you discover the time that we have been given by a generous Creator and cultivate that time through the deepening of relationship with God and neighbor. Join us as you can.
